The subtle however powerful mixture of comedy and tragedy in Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis was not an accident. Kafka combined these styles in order to communicate the combination of emotions that accurately mirrors the cruelty of existence. The main personality, Gregor Samsa, is used to illustrate the betrayal that can exist in a family unit as well as a job. Together, Kafka is making a strong discourse on your life in order to communicate his personal feelings of desolation and cynicism regarding society and society's microcosm, the family members. The only way to survive the inconsistencies and contradictions of life is the total approval of the put together comic and tragic portions of life that one must encounter daily. Kafka used The Metamorphosis as being a vehicle to express his individual frustrations with being a conflicted artist confronting society inside the early 20th century. Kurt Fickert who have wrote Kafka's Search for Truth in His Previous Stories helps this legislation when he explained, " Developing the mutuality of the problems of designers and their equivalent, people of no particular sophistication, is definitely the task Kafka assigned himself” (64). Kafka has as a result created Gregor to represent the humility and sensitivity commonly found in the stereotypical artist. Kafka felt that the modern day world did not tolerate the emotional, intelligent artist, therefore in Gregor we see the slow punishment of the hypersensitive soul. The respected Russian author, Vladimir Nabokov, comments on the significance of Gregor's personality in his Classes on Materials, It should be noted just how kind, great our cute little monster is definitely. His beetlehood, while distorting and awkward his body, seems to enhance in him all his human sweet taste. His utter unselfishness, his constant preoccupation with the requirements of others-this, against the backdrop of his hideous predicament comes in strong comfort. Kafka's skill consists in accumulating on the other hand, Gregor's insect features, all of the sad fine detail of his insect disguise, and on the other hand, in keeping brilliant and limpid before the reader's eyes Gregor's sweet and subtle self (270). Once Nabokov says, " Kafka's art is composed in acquiring on one hand, Gregor's insect features, all the unfortunate detail of his disguise, and on the other hand, in keeping brilliant and limpid before the reader's eyes Gregor's sweet and subtle self” (270), he is pointing out how Kafka wanted the reader to get absolutely obvious about the irony that such a nice person was in substance being tormented. Nabokov believes that Kafka uses Gregor's sensitive character and horrific transformation to represent the conflict between society and the artist, where world misunderstands the artist and is also capable of extreme cruelty. Superbly, Kafka offsets the remarkable tone of Gregor's first discovery that he is a giant beetle simply by introducing laughter. In the starting scenes with the Metamorphosis Kafka describes Gregor's passive popularity of his transformation in an insect, his exacerbated thoughts on his life, the comic rushing around of his father and mother and sibling, all taken to a orgasm by the arrival of the key clerk. The clerk the funny conversation to Gregor, reminding him of his business duties and challenging an explanation of his delinquency. Just prior to this kind of Gregor finally succeeds, pursuing the frustrating have difficulty, in throwing himself up out of bed. The clerk, standing outside the house Gregor's closed door, hears the sound of Gregor obtaining on the floor, and responds: Anything fell down in there... I am speaking now in the name of your parents associated with your movie director, and I plead with you in all seriousness to give me a complete reason at once.
